NEA Jazz Master Bill Holman Conducts Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra In Concert

One of the world's most widely-known and respected jazz arrangers, Bill Holman conducted the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra in three concerts of his music in Edmonds, Seattle and Kirkland last month. The final concert was recorded for broadcast and highlights will air on Jazz Northwest on Sunday, May 8 at 2 p.m. Pacific on 88.5 KPLU and streaming at kplu.org.

Designated a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts, Bill Holman is also a three-time Grammy winner and the winner of numerous jazz polls, both as a composer and an arranger.  He has been active in jazz since the 1950s when he was one of the principal arrangers for the Stan Kenton Orchestra.  He has arranged music for many other bands since then, along with music for soloists and singers.  Los Angeles musicians vie for the opportunity to play in Bill Holman's own big band, which has also recorded several albums.

The next concerts by the SRJO will feature Big Band Bossa Nova on June 18 and 19.

Jazz Northwest focuses on the regional jazz scene every Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Pacific on 88.5 KPLU.  The program is recorded and produced by Jim Wilke exclusively for 88.5 KPLU.   Previous programs are available for streaming at jazznw.org.
