Sponsored by KNKX. The Ninth Annual Jackson Street Jazz Walk (JSJW) is a MUSIC–COMMUNITY–LEGACY event. It celebrates the rich African American musical legacy of the Seattle Central District, where music icons such as Ernestine Anderson, Ray Charles, and Quincy Jones began their iconic careers.
This year the celebration kicks off with a Black & White Gala September 9th, featuring two live bands, dancing, hors d'oeuvres, and a no-host bar. The festivities continue on September 10th with the twelve band, seven stage Jackson Street Jazz Walk. Offering a block-party feel, the Jackson Street Jazz Walk is on the same day as the neighboring Pratt Fine Arts Center's Open House, giving attendees a gamut of live music and arts activities to enjoy.
Performances include: Eugenie Jones, Alex Dugdale Fade Quartet, Jovino Santos Neto, E. Pruitt & Maureese Itson Band, Peter Adams Quartet, Jennifer Mellish, Jeremy Shaskus Quartet/featuring Nathan Breedlove, Kim Maguire, Jean Chaumont Group, Trifecta, Tim Kennedy Trio, Good Company and Rik Wright's Fundamental Focus.
There is no admission fee for the jazz walk; instead, attendees are invited to make donations to support the event and benefit the Northwest Harvest Food Bank. Tax-deductible donations may be made online via https://poweredbyshunpike.org/c/PBS/a/JacksonStreetJazzWalk. Black & White Gala tickets are $25 and available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/black-white-gala-tickets-394106863237. Black & white attire suggested.
"The Jackson Street Jazz Walk is a way to honor and acknowledge the legacy of African American artists from Central District. It is a celebration that benefits the collective community and everyone pulling together is what makes it a success," commented Executive Producer, Eugenie Jones.
Jones assumed leadership of the event five years ago, focusing on celebrating the legacy of Central District's African American music while creating a "give back" opportunity to Central District non-profit organizations. The Boys & Girls Club and the Central Area Senior Center Meal Delivery Program were previous recipients, and this year's events will benefit Northwest Harvest Food Bank.
Jazz Walk venues include the Liberty Bank Building, Cheeky Café, Pratt Fine Arts Center Plaza, Wonder Ethiopian Restaurant & Sports Bar, Jackson Apartments and Central Area Senior Center. Please join us in thanking our sponsors, including Vulcan Real Estate, Earshot Jazz, Uncle Ikes, KNKX Radio, Verity Credit Union, Eugenie Jones Jazz, G3 & Associates, Shunpike and Pratt Fine Arts Center.
