Event Description

A young computer whiz kid accidentally connects into a top secret super-computer which has complete control over the U.S. nuclear arsenal. It challenges him to a game between America and Russia, and he innocently starts the countdown to World War 3. Can he convince the computer he wanted to play a game and not the real thing?

Film Discussion
After the 6:45 pm screening of the film, join Gabriel Spitzer, host of KNKX's podcast Sound Effect and guests (see below) for a discussion of the film: How vulnerable are we to nuclear annihilation? How well does the human vs machine storyline hold up? How would the film feel different if it were shot in the PNW today? This discussion will be recorded for possible airing on the Sound Effect show.

Panelists:
Scott L. Montgomery is an author, geoscientist, and affiliate faculty member in the Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington.

Randy Nichols is an Assistant Professor at UW-Tacoma whose research focuses on the political economy of the video games industry.
