Sponsored by 88.5 KNKX. Started as the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival in October 1996, TWIST has grown into the largest event of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, gaining industry and audience recognition for showcasing the latest and greatest in queer film, from major motion picture premieres to emerging talent. An important venue in the Seattle film scene—and the social event of the season—the festival provides unique opportunities for visiting and local filmmakers to engage and entertain over 10,000 attendees. Opening night brings "The Happy Prince," written and directed by Rupert Everett, who also stars as Oscar Wilde. Also in the mix is an award-winning documentary, "Transmilitary," an up-close look at the daily challenges of transgender troops openly serving their country. There's also "Riot," another documentary, about the struggle to decriminalize homosexuality in Australia in the 1970's. TWIST's screenings will take place at several Seattle locations. Panel discussions, parties and more are on the program, too.
