Condolences are pouring in for Washington State University quarterback Tyler Hilinski . He was found dead in Pullman Tuesday of an apparent suicide.

Police in Pullman said they were called to an apartment Tuesday afternoon to check on Hilinski. He had not shown up for football practice earlier in the day.

According to a statement from police, they found him dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A suicide note was found in the apartment.

Hilinski was from Claremont, California. On the WSU football team, he backed up starting quarterback Luke Falk. He appeared in eight games this season, including the Holiday Bowl.

WSU Interim Director of Athletics John Johnson called the news “devastating." He said team members were brought together to learn the news of Hilinski's death and they are being supported by counselors, psychologists, and medical staff.
