Seattle author and Seattle broadcaster win National awards

Two Seattle natives have been honored by the Jazz Journalists Association Awards for Journalism and Media.

Seattle author Paul de Barros was presented with the Best Book About Jazz award for his in-depth biography Shall We Play That One Together? The Life and Art of Jazz Piano Legend Marian McPartland.

After several years as a nominee, Seattle-based jazz broadcaster Jim Wilke was finally honored with the prestigious Willis Conover-Marian McPartland Award for Broadcasting. Wilke hosts and produces Jazz Northwest for KPLU, and his very popular program "Jazz After Hours" is distributed nationally by Public Radio International.

The Journalism and Media awards were presented last night at New York's Blue Note jazz club.

The Jazz Journalists Association is an organization dedicated to promoting the best use of media of all kinds—new and old, online and off—to tell the story of jazz.

The JJA also presents annual awards for music.  Those winners were announced May 1.

Originally from Detroit, Robin Lloyd has been presenting jazz, blues and Latin jazz on public radio for nearly 40 years. She's a member of the Jazz Education Network and the Jazz Journalists Association.
