Last year's presidential election left many people wondering about the future of American politics. Former Washington state Republican Party Chairman Chris Vance is one of them.

He was highly critical of now-President Donald Trump when Vance ran for U.S. Senate as a Republican last year. He recently announced that he is leaving the Republican Party.

Vance has now aligned himself with an organization called The Centrist Project. He and Centrist Project Executive Director Nick Troiano sat down with Seattle Times political reporter Jim Brunner for The Overcast, the Seattle Times weekly politics podcast recorded at KNKX.

They talked about centrism, whether independents have a chance in upcoming state and Congressional elections and the appeal of a "third way" on both the right and the left.

You can find The Overcast on iTunes, Tunein, Stitcher and SoundCloud.
