Jazz Northwest For June 12, 2016

There's an easy interplay between New York and Seattle musicians and several recent releases illustrate this. Trumpet players Ray Vega and Thomas Marriott reunited for a second CD together, and Jay Thomas and Gary Smulyan have a new release (on a Japanese label!).

This Sunday, June 12 on Jazz Northwest on 88.5 KPLU, we'll play music from both of these CDs and also the 2013 release by Seattle saxophonist Steve Treseler with Ingrid Jensen (former B.C., now N.Y.).  Just for kicks, and because we love songs with hip lyrics, we include one from former Orcas Islander, L.A. and N.Y. resident Lorraine Feather, who's bi-coastal by herself.

Also included are some best bets for live jazz around Seattle in the coming week and more.

Jazz Northwest is produced by Jim Wilke exclusively for 88.5 KPLU and kplu.org every Sunday afternoon at 2 PM Pacific.  After broadcast, programs may be streamed on demand at jazznw.org.

Jim has been a fixture on Seattle radio since 1961. He was the host of Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International from 1984-2014. Currently Jim has been producing Jazz Northwest for KNKX since 1988. This weekly program focuses on the regional jazz scene and frequently includes performances Jim records on location for Jazz Northwest.
