This week's Saturday Jazz Caliente starts with a hot set of music from some Northwest favorites, and then we'll get into some cooler Latin Jazz sounds to help you beat the heat.
The local focus of the first set this week is on trumpeter Bobby Medina and his Cosmopolitan Pops Orchestra, vibraphonist Dan Duval's Good Vibes Quartet, and pianist Ann Reynolds with her group Clave Gringa.
You can catch Clave Gringa live Friday July 27 at the Royal Room, they're performing in the Seattle Latin, Brazilian and Carribbean Festival. Dan Duval's Good Vibes Quartet plays at Local Brix in Auburn on Friday August 3rd.
Saturday Jazz Caliente will also help you cool down from the heat wave with a lovely bolero (think "slow dance") from Ray Mantilla's band, and a choro piece about snow from clarinetist Anat Cohen and Trio Brasileiro.
From Roberto Fonseca's Zamazu, we'll wrap it up with a composition in which he reflects on the "...almost secret pleasure of playing with all the musicians from different styles whom you come across in life." He calls it "Clandestino."
Until then, here's a little solo magic from Roberto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGW5cciEtV0
Jazz Caliente airs Saturdays at 5:00 p.m. The show is hosted by Robin Lloyd and produced by KNKX Public Radio.
