Sound Effect is your weekly tour of ideas, inspired by the place we live. The show is hosted by KPLU's Gabriel Spitzer.

As you may have heard, KPLU is now in a transition periodand there is much uncertainty around the future of Sound Effect. So what do we do when we’re feeling frightened or anxious? We watch videos of cute animals.

And so we thought we’d take the chance to revisit our episode on “Creatures.” In it, we meet Snowdrift, Jennifer Wing’s lost cat who did not want to be found.

Katy Sewall swoops in with a story about a little girl that got a lot more than she bargained for when she started feeding some neighborhood crows.

Gabriel Spitzer takes us on a trip to San Juan Island to learn about how one pesky pig nearly started a warbetween Great Britain and the U.S. And then we move over to Friday Harbor to learn about the comb jelly, a creature that has some sponge scientists in a tizzy.

And Sound Effect Senior Producer Arwen Nicks sets out to report on the feelings of a Great Dane named Fern, through the interpretation of a psychic and finds herself pulled into the piece.

Gabriel Spitzer is a former KNKX reporter, producer and host who covered science and health and worked on the show Sound Effect.
